Since Apple has introduced SharePlay - a feature for screen sharing and is able to synchronize viewing of video and music, to use with FaceTime Calls, iPhone users have explored many gameplay options. Screen sharing Netflix on FaceTime is one of them.
Before starting, you need to reset Network Settings on your iPhone: Go to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Step 1. Open FaceTime > tap New FaceTime > make a call with your friends.
Step 2. Tap the Share Content button in the top menu bar.
Step 3. Open Netflix app and play the show or movie.
Make sure that your Apple device is running iOS 15.1 or later, or iPadOS 15.1 or later.
Important Notes:
Although this method sometimes resolve issues with FaceTime screen sharing, including problems related to watching Netflix. However, it's essential to understand that Netflix itself does not support SharePlay; and the DRM protection can still cause a black screen when you try to share Netflix content with friends on FaceTime.
1) As you tap the Share Content button, a list of "Apps for SharePlay" will shows up.
2) All your installed apps that support the feature will auto display in the list.
3) Swipe right and see if Netflix is included.
Alternatively, a more direct way is to open the Netflix app and play the video during a FaceTime call. If supported, a prompt will appear in the middle screen and guide you to tap SharePlay.
Unfortunately, NO. At the time of this writing, Netflix does not support screen sharing as well as SharePlay. You cannot share screen Netflix on FaceTime directly.
As for the in-app casting feature of Netflix, it is used for screen mirroring from iPhones to compatible smart TVs. This is not for remote watching Netflix content with friends.
Netflix allows account sharing. But, for friends outside the household, you need to add them as Extra Membe and pay for $7.99 per month.
Using a watch party browser extension allows you to enjoy Netflix content with friends remotely. The tool will synchronize video playback and adds a group chat feature. Users must have their own Netflix accounts.
1. Does Netflix Has a Built-in Share Feature?
Yes. There is a Share button in the video detailed page. But, it is for sharing the title of a show or movie.
And, you can also use the Moments feature to share specific clips from content with your friends.
2. Why can't I screen share Netflix?
Netflix uses DRM technologies like Widevine to encrypt its content. This encryption prevents unauthorized sharing or recording of content, often resulting in a black screen when attempting to share via screen sharing tools.
While you can technically share your screen, the DRM protection will likely prevent the content from being visible to others.
