iPhone users may have used the AirPlay feature many times. The feature is integrated into lots of smart TVs, like Samsung, giving a seamless screen mirroring from iPhones to TVs. Though AirPlay is easy to use, it may not work sometimes. Is there any alternative tool to cast iPhone to TV without AirPlay? Yes, of course. Various solutions you can choose from.
While AirPlay is Apple's go-to solution, it's not the only way. You absolutely can mirror your iPhone to a TV without it, such as using third-party apps or HDMI cables.
SmartThing is mainly used for controlling and managing smart devices at home from your mobile device. It provides a sparkling feature - Mirror screen (Smart View) - which is for screen mirroring.
If you're looking for alternatives to AirPlay, it is one of the recommendations that lets you free from compatibility issues.
How to use SmartThing?
If this is your first time using it, sign up one by following the on-screen instructions. You will need an email address for registration.
To ensure a successful connection, first check the Bluetooth and WiFi settings on your iPhone and see if they are activated. These settings will help search devices nearby.
a. Now, tap Devices > Home > Add > Scan nearby.
b. Select the Samsung TV and complete the connection.
Before starting, make your TV networked. It's best to use the same network as your iPhone.
Go to Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > System Manager > Samsung Account.
Enter your account and password in the next step.
a. Back to your iPhone, tap the TV device in the SmartThing app.
b. Tap More options (⫶) in the top right corner.
c. Tap Mirror screen (Smart View) > Start now.
A wired connection ensures a stable casting performance and you don’t need a Wi-Fi network. Thus, this method is recommended as the second option for screen mirroring iPhone to Samsung TV without AirPlay.
Apple provides a list of adapters to help with it, for example, Lightning Digital AV Adapter, Lightning to VGA Adapter, USB-C Display AV Adapter, or USB-C VGA Multi-port Adapter.
What you need:
After preparing the adapter, you can:
1) Plug the Lightning end of the Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter into your iPhone.
2) Take one end of the HDMI cable and plug it into the HDMI port on the adapter.
3) Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into an available HDMI port on your Samsung TV
4) On your Samsung TV, select the correct HDMI port (e.g., HDMI 1, HDMI 2) with your TV remote.
5) Once connected, your iPhone’s screen should appear automatically on your Samsung TV.
You can now watch videos, play games, browse photos, or use any app that you would typically use on your iPhone, and it will be mirrored to the Samsung TV.
This method is much more direct to cast videos, especially for entertainment purposes.
These streaming apps, with a casting feature built-in, are supported in Samsung TVs: YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, Discovery+, etc.
If you have those mentioned apps installed on your iPhone, the screen mirroring process will be very easy.
1) Use the same Wi-Fi on your iPhone and Samsung TV.
2) Now, open the streaming app on both devices at the same time. Take YouTube as an example here
3) Play the video you want to watch on iPhone. There is a casting icon on the top.
4) Tap it and then choose the TV name from the available device list.
You will soon see the content screen mirroring from your iPhone to the TV.
